Lucid Gravity: Seven-Seater Interceptor
It’s not just Elon who knows how to build electric cars in the U.S.—Lucid Motors does, too. It’s just that these models aren’t very well known here yet. That’s a shame, because the high-performance Gravity, with a range of over 700 km, is a real stunner.
The American automaker has had a presence in Switzerland since 2023, two years after the launch of its first production model, the Lucid Air electric sedan. Yet these elegant luxury electric cars are still largely unknown. This also applies to their latest model, the Lucid Gravity: a combination of a station wagon, an SUV, and a supercar. And yet, this imposing car—5.04 meters long and 2.00 meters wide—is hard to miss. At the very least, when you open the frunk, passersby stop in their tracks and want to know more about the Gravity.
Multifunctional Frunk
Under its electrically opening front hood, this sleek electric car not only has a 230-liter storage compartment, but the “frunk” also conceals a comfortable bench seat complete with a power outlet. This takes mobile working to a whole new level. The exquisitely crafted interior, featuring a large curved screen for the driver and a massive multimedia display, offers plenty of space. Even the rear seats offer a luxurious ride. The Gravity easily accommodates up to seven people or 1,010 to 3,239 liters of luggage (a figure that would make many van owners green with envy). There are also many thoughtful details that evoke the Lucid’s Californian heritage, such as bear logos and the coordinates on the door trim that refer to a hiking trail in Joshua Tree National Park.
Impressive acceleration
A tip for slowing down, so to speak, after the incredible acceleration in the Gravity. Because despite its size and curb weight of about 2.8 metric tons, the digital speedometer seems to literally skyrocket on the German autobahn the moment you press the gas pedal. At 255 km/h, we lift our foot off the pedal, mindful of our stopping distance. It’s impressive how effortlessly this American car takes off thanks to its 617 kW/839 PS and 1,232 Nm (0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 s), yet remains incredibly controllable and stable. But this all-wheel-drive car isn’t just a speed demon in the left lane—it also handles winding roads with confidence. The small, oval steering wheel also fits very comfortably in your hands. One important thing: be sure to deactivate the lane-keeping assist before setting off. Its interventions are quite forceful and require quick reactions and full attention. There’s a gentler way to do it.
Despite some software bugs (for example, during our test, the DAB radio reception simply froze until the next charging session), this American car is a sophisticated, luxurious ride. And with a WLTP range of 712 to 748 km—in our test, we made it almost 700 km before we had to return to the charging station—the test car is a great option despite its somewhat steep price tag of 156,600 francs. Especially since the Gravity can handle up to 400 kW while charging thanks to its 926-volt architecture, meaning the 123-kWh battery is recharged in no time for new adventures.

If you value space, luxury, and sportiness—and have the courage to go with a brand that isn't quite as well-known—the Lucid Gravity, with its unique features, is definitely worth considering.
