Lucid Gravity: Another masterpiece
With its second model, the US manufacturer is once again showing just how good an electric car can be. Nevertheless, the new Gravity is unlikely to attract much attention in this country - even though it is actually a real bargain.
Many people are not yet familiar with the Lucid brand. The US manufacturer only started producing vehicles in 2021 and has only offered one model so far, the Air saloon. However, this model has it all: not only is it based on a 925-volt architecture and can therefore charge ultra-fast, the Air is also characterized by an unprecedented space concept, an extremely economical drive and a particularly streamlined design. Nevertheless, the long-range saloon has so far found little favor with us.
Now the second Lucid is following with the Gravity - and this could develop into more of a sales success, after all SUVs are much more popular here than saloons. The Gravity starts at 108,900 Swiss francs, and let's get straight to the point: What appears to be expensive at first glance turns out to be a real bargain at second glance. Because as the first test drive shows, the Lucid Gravity, like the Air, is a true masterpiece.
Long-distance glider with cornering talent
The basic Touring version delivers 418 kW/568 hp over all four wheels, while the Grand Touring delivers 617 kW/839 hp. This allows the five-meter-long SUV to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.2 and 3.6 seconds respectively, which is no longer very surprising today. More impressive is how the Gravity performs on the road: thanks to the self-developed torque vectoring system, it masters cornering with flying colors and is an extremely comfortable glider on country roads. An 89-kWh battery provides a range of 545 kilometers in the base model, while the top model with a 123-kWh battery even manages 748 kilometers. Charging takes place at 250 and 400 kW respectively.
The interior has a very high-quality feel. The cockpit layout has been modified compared to the Air, with a curved 34-inch display that extends behind the steering wheel and over the center console, and a large touchscreen underneath. The space offered by the six-seater is second to none - adults can even sit comfortably in the third row of seats. The trunk holds a generous 780 liters, with a record-breaking 3398 liters when the rear seats are folded down. There is also a huge «frunk» with 230 liters, which can be converted into a comfortable sofa for two people in just a few simple steps.
The Lucid Gravity is an innovative space miracle with impressive capabilities - whether this is enough to establish the exciting brand from Silicon Valley in our country remains to be seen. With a strong financial backer from Saudi Arabia behind it, financing seems to be secured, at least for the time being.
