After five years as head of Lamborghini, Stefano Domenicali will lead Formula 1 into the future. No longer as team boss, but as head of the organization.

Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. confirms that Chairman and CEO Stefano Domenicali will relinquish leadership of the Italian supercar brand to take up a new professional challenge from January 2021.

Italians with deep racing roots
The 55-year-old Italian takes over as President and CEO of the Formula One organization from Chase Carey. The American remains non-executive chairman and thus continues to assist Domenicali in an advisory capacity. As Bernie Ecclestone's successor, Carey has headed Formula 1 since 2017, the rights to which belong to the U.S. company Liberty Media.

Stefano Domenicali, who was born in Imola and lives in Monza, was team boss of Scuderia Ferrari from 2008 to 2014. In his first year in office, the Reds won their last title to date as world champions in the constructors' championship.

Chase Carey will be taking a back seat from January 2021. The Americans are now handing the main responsibility for the F1 organization back to a proven petrol head from Europe.

Forward strategy with Lamborghini
Since taking office in 2016, Stefano Domenicali has led Lamborghini through a decisive growth phase. This included the market launch of the Urus and the associated creation of more than 700 new jobs. This was accompanied by a doubling of sales figures and a significant increase in the brand's global profile.

Lamborghini has also played an increasingly important role in motorsport in recent years, focusing on GT3 championships. In parallel, Domenicali has always chaired the FIA Commission for Single Seaters (race cars).
