Cabin Air Filter Replacement: Win an Air Conditioning Upgrade!

Replacing the air conditioning cabin filter regularly isn't just important—it's also an opportunity to upgrade. Autosprint, in partnership with Bosch Car Service, is giving away three filter replacements.

Great Climate: Replacing the cabin air filter at least once a year helps maintain the air conditioning system's performance. On top of that, upgrading to a different type of filter makes life easier for people with allergies and protects against pollutants and unpleasant odors. Photo: iStock

Especially in the summer, we rely on it every day, but rarely give it a second thought or take care of it: the car’s air conditioner. Yet it can do much more than we give it credit for: It cools and dehumidifies (which prevents fogging) and can help people suffering from hay fever, as well as allergy sufferers in general. For people with sensitive airways, it can make it easier to breathe freely and ensure the air inside the car is healthier and odor-free—provided you don’t forget to replace the cabin air filter and choose the right one.

A Chance for Better Air

It is recommended to replace the filter annually (or every 15,000 kilometers), because if the filter becomes clogged, its performance and cooling efficiency suffer. Unfortunately, many people are unaware that there are very different types of cabin air filters for almost all cars. Older or lower-priced cars, in particular, often come equipped with only simple fiber filters. These offer fairly good protection against pollen, but nothing more. A better choice is the more effective combination filter/activated carbon filter, which also traps pollutants. However, so-called HEPA filters—the highest filtration level—are ideal. One example is the Bosch FILTER+pro, which—thanks to Autosprint and Bosch—you might soon be able to benefit from with a little luck (see reader promotion below). Thanks to an antimicrobial layer combined with activated carbon and a microfiber layer, this filter traps pollen and other allergens. It filters out more than 98 percent of fine dust, as well as bacteria and viruses, prevents mold growth, and neutralizes harmful or foul-smelling gases.
