Ford: Young men like to drive with risk
More than half of drivers drive faster than the speed limit. 43 percent text while driving, 36 percent make phone calls, 13 percent have already driven under the influence of alcohol, and eleven percent watch cell phone videos while on the road. This is the result of a study commissioned by Ford among 6500 male and female drivers in Europe, which was conducted in June 2016, i.e. before the "Pokemon Go" outbreak. The survey also shows that 41 percent drive more riskily when friends are in the car. Risky behavior is considered a key factor, especially among young drivers. Between 2004 and 2013 alone, 62,000 young people were killed in traffic accidents in the European Union. The figure for 18- to 24-year-olds is 15 percent, and as high as 21 percent in the summer. The survey found that 68 percent of young people feel they drive more relaxed in the summer.
Young men value speed
The survey confirms: The majority of deaths across Europe in the 18-24 age group involve young men. They are particularly likely to take risks, place higher value on speed, are more likely to use cell phones while driving and are more likely to drink alcohol before participating in road traffic than women of the same age. Respondents in France were stopped by the police particularly often; Italians were most likely to reach for their cell phones while driving, while Spaniards were more likely to take risks when friends were in the car with them.
