Surprised customers in a positive sense are not uncommon, notes Jean-Claude Vésy of Garage de la Molière SA in Estavayer-le-Lac FR. He is one of the 200 Swiss AGVS garages that issue a personalized certificate to their customers after the AutoEnergyCheck (AEC) has been completed.
A previously unknown savings potential
Jean-Claude Vésy: "Motorists are shown a previously unknown savings potential and we garage owners can show that we are committed to the environment. The AEC is a service that can save motorists up to 20 percent in energy and money."
Measures cost up to 300 francs
And this is how the check works: The garage owner checks around ten different points on the vehicle that are relevant for savings. The check takes around half an hour, including a personal consultation, and can be integrated into the normal service, wheel change or seasonal check.
The typical amount that can be saved through the AEC and associated measures is between 200 and 300 francs per year and vehicle. The greatest savings potential is usually in the tires.
Pressure of the tires plays an important role
Jan Bergamin from JB Automobile in Villigen AG: "The tire pressure is often too low. During the check, the tire pressure is increased slightly to reduce rolling resistance. To further reduce rolling resistance, attention can be paid to low rolling resistance tires the next time tires are replaced. These are characterized by a particularly good category on the tire label. With these measures alone, savings of over 100 liters of fuel per year are possible."
Economical use of automatic climate control
The economical use of the air conditioning system has a significant financial impact. It consumes a lot of energy, especially in automatic mode. People are also amazed at the savings potential that results from the use of LED daytime running lights alone.
