Autoscout24: Competition intensifies - prices under pressure

The range on the online platform has grown in 2025 despite a decline in new registrations. Electrified vehicles in particular are having a direct impact on prices.

Overall, 1.7% more vehicles were advertised on Autoscout24 in 2025 than in the previous year. Used cars continued to account for the largest share, with their supply increasing by 1.1%. New car listings grew much more strongly (+4.9%). New estate cars (+11.5 percent), SUVs (+7.1 percent) and saloons (+4.9 percent) were particularly in demand. Among used vehicles, SUVs in particular continued to grow, while the supply of used small cars and saloons fell slightly.

Electric vehicles are becoming cheaper
The sustained price momentum for electric vehicles is striking. Used battery electric vehicles (BEV) had already become significantly cheaper in 2024 - this trend continued in 2025. The average asking price fell by 8.3% to CHF 43,549. Other drive types in the used car segment also became cheaper: diesel by 6 percent (23,673), mild hybrids by 5 percent (50,245), full hybrids by 1.2 percent (35,479) and petrol cars slightly by 0.2 percent (37,571). Plug-in hybrids were an exception, with prices rising slightly (56,156).

The picture for new cars was mixed. While battery electric vehicles became 8.1 percent cheaper on average (56,229), new mild hybrids (64,991), plug-in hybrids (84,634) and diesel models (61,800) became up to around ten percent more expensive in some cases. ’Overall, electric and hybrid vehicles are subject to stronger price movements than vehicles with combustion engines. The reasons for this are a growing supply, an increasing variety of models and regulatory framework conditions that influence sales of vehicles with alternative drive systems,’ says Alberto Sanz de Lama, Managing Director of Autoscout24 at SMG Swiss Marketplace Group.

Electrification is accelerating
At the same time, electrification in the used car market is increasing significantly. Since 2020, the share of used electric vehicles in all listings on Autoscout24 has increased almost fivefold. Compared to the previous year, 16% more used BEVs, 23% more plug-in hybrids and 32% more mild hybrids were offered in 2025. «For many buyers, the entry into electromobility is via the used car market,» says Alberto Sanz de Lama.

Electrified drive systems also increased in the new car segment: plug-in hybrids (+33.6%), mild hybrids (+25.6%) and battery-powered electric vehicles (+21.9%) were advertised more frequently. In contrast, the supply of petrol (-12.9%), diesel (-24.9%) and full hybrids (-1.9%) decreased.
