Piaggio: Airbags soon also for two-wheelers
MORE SAFETY FOR BIKERS As two-wheelers enjoy increasing popularity worldwide, Piaggio wants to work with specialist supplier Autoliv to bring an airbag for scooters to production maturity.

Italian scooter company Piaggio is launching a partnership with Swedish company Autoliv, the world leader in motor vehicle safety systems. Together, the companies want to develop an airbag for two-wheelers. The airbag is designed to open within milliseconds in the event of a collision and form a protective cushion.
Airbags on motorcycles or scooters are not yet a success story. Only Honda offers its Gold Wing super-touring model with an optional airbag. So far, the trend in the two-wheeler sector has been more toward airbags integrated into clothing.
Simulation tools for airbag concepts
Autoliv says it has already developed the first airbag concepts for two-wheelers using simulation tools and conducted full-scale crash tests. Together with Piaggio, these systems are now to be developed ready for series production and also commercialized.
