ASTAG: Transport industry creates road safety
Road safety is a top priority for the Swiss Road Transport Association ASTAG. All freight transportation must be carried out as safely as possible by road and rail. There is no point in playing the two modes of transport off against each other. ASTAG condemns the scaremongering of the Alpine Initiative. For years, the Swiss Commercial Vehicle Association ASTAG has been committed to targeted training and professionalism on the road. The results are positive. The number of accidents involving heavy commercial vehicles has been demonstrably decreasing for years. Nevertheless, as in other areas, a residual risk remains. However, the aim is to ensure that all freight transportation - whether by road or rail - is as accident-free and safe as possible. This is the best possible way to ensure road safety.
No Swiss compromises on road safety
ASTAG is committed to the co-modality of road and rail. It is important that there can be no compromises when it comes to road safety. The transport industry will continue to assume its great responsibility professionally in the future and continue to contribute to improving road safety on an ongoing basis. ASTAG Central President Adrian Amstutz: "We do everything we can to ensure that goods and merchandise reach their destination safely, accident-free and reliably for businesses and consumers. The Alpine Initiative, on the other hand, is only adding fuel to the fire unnecessarily and unfoundedly, but very deliberately, to legitimize its own existence. ASTAG therefore condemns the action on the Simplon Pass. Safe transportation of dangerous goods definitely does not require (warning) fires, but experience, knowledge and skill - as our companies and drivers demonstrate on a daily basis!"
