Oldtimer GP 2020: Everything a little different 🎥
Difficult plans Participants and fans breathe a sigh of relief: even if not quite as originally planned, the 48th AvD Oldtimer GP is to take place at the Nürburgring in August. The five-minute video of the OGP 2019 with prominent comments reflects the fascination of this event. This August, however, it will be a little different.
The revised plans for the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix from August 7 to 9 are taking shape. After the organizers had to rethink many details of the classic weekend at the Nürburgring due to the Corona pandemic, the planned program at the race track could now be fixed.
Deviations from the original program
Eleven races, special runs and presentations will be offered at the 48th edition of the largest continental European classic car racing event. Its composition shows some deviations from the original plans.
The new elements include the Historic Touring Car and GT Trophy (HTGT) and a 120-minute endurance race for touring cars and GTs on the GP circuit. The latter replaces the previously planned AvD Historic Marathon on the Nordschleife, which proved unfeasible due to organizational problems.
Jacky Ickx in a historic Ferrari
A new highlight in the program, on the other hand, is the special run of Formula 1 legends from the 1970s to the 1990s with a focus on Ferrari models. Motorsport legend Jacky Ickx will be coming to the Nürburgring as guest of honor and will take part in the special run in his original car from 1971.

If possible with spectators
The next steps in the event preparations have already been initiated: Together with the management of the Nürburgring, the organizers are currently working on an event concept that takes particular account of infection control and hygiene measures.
Nevertheless, as much as possible of the spirit of the event should be preserved. Subsequently, it must be reviewed and approved by the relevant authorities.
If possible, spectators should also be able to enjoy the historic sport. In order to protect them, as well as the participants and organizers, as best as possible from infection, this will mean that in many areas the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix will be different from previous years.
