At this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, fans of sporty vehicles from all eras were offered a particularly large number of attractions. The racing event itself, founded by the Duke of Richmond, Lord March, celebrated its 25th birthday, and in addition no less than three renowned car manufacturers looked back on their now 70-year history.
Well-known racing cracks demanded all from their cars
Land Rover had a large crowd of classic vehicles tackle the "Hill Climb" in Goodwood Park for the occasion, Lotus showed classic racing cars and new special models, and Porsche was represented as the star among sports cars in the castle park with a wide variety of series, sports and racing vehicles. Racing cracks of earlier years such as Walter Röhrl and Derek Bell, as well as current stars like Valtteri Bottas, demanded everything from their cars. Purely electric, VW's Pikes Peak racer shot across the asphalt ribbon of the Goodwood hill - and adjacent meadows. But it was enough for a new electric record. Also all-electric, the Robocar whizzed around the track, not with a driver but with lots of sensors on board.
Engine roars, exhaust fumes and squealing tires are always the main attraction at Goodwood, but the manufacturers' presentation halls become more and more voluminous every year. The place where motor sport and car culture are celebrated also seems to many carmakers to be a suitable stage for the presentation of new models or model variants.
Toyota Supra and Mustang Bullitt celebrated premieres
Highlights included the lightweight McLaren 600 LT and the resurrected Toyota Supra (AutoSprintCH reported), which completed the fast course still in disguise. Ford commemorated the legendary Steve McQueen film of 1968 with the special Mustang Bullitt model, while Italdesign's 720-hp macho Nissan GT-R50 sports car was the subject of a report. AutoSprintCH online tomorrow in detail. Other crowd-pullers were the innovations from northern Italy: the Lamborghini Urus and Centenario Roadster models and the top variants GTS and Trofeo of the Maserati Levante.
